ANGIN’s 49th Angel Investor: Raya Papp

We are honored to announce ANGIN’s 49th angel investor, Raya Papp. Raya is the Co-Founder and Partner of Challenger 88. The company has advised several companies, funds and foundations around impact investing topics. Challenger 88 aims for a balanced world and achieves it with the company’s two main strategies which are inspiring and advising families, foundations, impact funds and companies on how to create positive impact according to their values across all asset classes and investing in strongly growing companies with outstanding environmental and social solutions.

Prior to Challenger 88, Raya co-headed LGT Venture Philanthropy in Asia Pacific, managing the Asia Investment Portfolio.  She led a diverse team of investment managers and ICat fellows across 5 countries to make new investments and to scale the social impact and financial strength of existing investments, often as a Board member.  She also managed LGT VP’s Accelerator Program for early stage social enterprises.  She received the Singapore Venture Capital & Private Equity Association Award for deal of the year for the investment in Kennemer Foods.
Raya is an Entrepreneur in Residence at INSEAD, taught the INSEAD/Hub Social Enterprise Bootcamp across Southeast Asia (SEA), mentored at The Hub Singapore, sat on the ANDE SEA Steering Committee and the Toniic SEA Deal Selection Committee.  Prior to LGT VP, Raya ran the Social Enterprise Team at Impact Investment Exchange Asia (IIX), helping social entrepreneurs prepare for and raise Angel and Growth Capital.  In her transition to understanding social and environmental impact, she volunteered with Deutsche Bank’s Foundation assisting them with their private equity investments and took a year-long sabbatical to guide the long-term vision and growth of Water for Cambodia, a Deutsche Bank supported clean water NGO, where she continues to serve as a Board Member.
Raya formerly had an extended career in Investment Banking and Corporate Finance. She was an Executive Director at Deutsche Bank Global Asset Management and a Vice President of Corporate Finance and M&A at Morgan Stanley in New York covering Fin Tech.  She led the market development of Thomson Reuters Scientific Division across the Asia Pacific region and she worked at tech start-up Priceline.com to close two rounds of private equity and complete their IPO. Raya holds a MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia.
