We are more than honored to have and announce ANGIN’s 50th angel investor, Ibu Mari Elka Pangestu. Ibu Mari served as Indonesia’s Minister of Trade from October 2004 – October 2011, and Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy from October 2011 through October 2014. She received a Bintang Mahaputra in 2013, the highest public service award from the President of Indonesia.
Ibu Mari obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Australian National University, and her Doctorate in economics from the University of California at Davis, United States in 1986. She was awarded Doctor of Letters HC, College of Business and Economics, Australian National University in 2013.
Before joining the government in 2004 she was a well-known economic expert on international trade and other policy issues. She was member of the board and executive director of Indonesia’s leading think tank Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), and also a lecturer in the Faculty of Economics in the University of Indonesia. She was also co-coordinator of the Task Force on Poverty and Development for the United Nations Millennium Project with Professor Jeffrey Sachs. She was and continues to be active in international fora such as the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council, and World Economic Forum, Boao Forum for Asia.
She is currently on the Board of Trustees of CSIS, a professor of international economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia, is an independent commissioner on the board of Astra International and independent commissioner as well as President Commissioner of Bank BTPN, and board member of the ICC (International Chamber of Commerce). She also serves on the advisory board of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce, Plug and Play Indonesia, SEA, and Asian Global Institute, University of Hong Kong.
