FuckUp Nights was created to celebrate failures and started in Mexico due to a frustration from event that only highlighter success stories. Spanning 250 cities and 80 countries, FuckUp Nights finally held its first event in Jakarta organised by Impact Hub last Friday (13/07)
There were 4 speakers sharing their failure stories coming from different kind of industries
Zsa Zsa Syahlia founder of Kahanu shared a stories of how she had 8 failed fashion startups due to an inability to find good business partner. Along the way she learnt that she focused too much on what her business partners could offer, and she needed to focus relying on herself first before leveraging her partners’ resource.
Back in the days, Massimiliano (now Head of Business Intelligence – Financial Services Platform at Gojek) spent USD 100.000 of a company he previously worked for, Oportun’s, money on a digital marketing project, which ended up making zero difference to the company. He learnt that you cannot just throw money at a problem to solve it and change needs to happen incrementally, not in huge project.
Dondi Hananto, an active investor and partner Patamar Capital, learnt that good intentions do not always lead to good outcomes. He scaled too fast, ended up hiring branch managers that were corrupt. He also learnt to take your time with hiring and building good teams.
Budi Satria, the CEO of Mikro Investindo went, from a 3 times jailed, 4 time university dropout in Indonesia to graduating his bachelors and masters in the US and becoming a CEO at 45. He learnt that you need to find your purpose in your life and let that drive you.
