[RECAP] Young Changemakers Social Enterprise (YCSE) Academy Networking and Presentation Day

On Saturday, March 23rd 2019, ANGIN was honored to be invited in the panel discussion in Young Changemakers Social Enterprise (YCSE) Academy Networking and Presentation Day 2019. YCSE Academy – co-created by @america and Campaign – is a 3-month program to develop the capacity of YSEALI members in Indonesia to be a social entrepreneur. Among hundreds of applications received, there were 10 aspiring entrepreneurs selected to participate in the 4-day bootcamp in Bandung. Upon the completion of the program, they presented their ideas on the public presentation day in Jakarta. They would be supported by @america and Campaign to launch their businesses within this year.

On behalf of ANGIN, Benedikta Atika, the Impact Investment Lead, shared the investors’ view in the social enterprise landscape in Indonesia. There were also the other key ecosystem players in the panel, such as Sean McKee (Entrepreneurship Program Manager and Economic Assistant at U.S. Embassy Jakarta), Jed Dornburg (Director at @america), Helga Angelina (Co-founder Burgreens) and Stephanie Arifin (Director at PLUS).

It was an insightful discussion to grow social entrepreneurship in Indonesia. Some of the points discussed were the importance of knowing the fundraising need in social enterprises, the typical expectation of angel investors and some tips for the social entrepreneurs to focus on their mission.

After the panel session, the 10 social enterprises had the opportunity to pitch their ideas in front of the audience, consisting of potential investors, community members and media. Those participants were coming from 10 different cities in Indonesia, such as Medan, Denpasar and Pontianak. It was amazing to see their inspiring ideas, for example, coconut waste management, bionic hands for people with disabilities, sustainable fashion solution, and tourism development through gamification.

ANGIN is grateful to be part of the amazing community of aspiring entrepreneurs in Indonesia.
