[RECAP] PaSTI: How Big Data Enhance Tourism Startup

On 15 April 2019, PaSTI (Penggiat Startup Tourism Indonesia) at Plug and Play Indonesia organized an event called “How Big Data Enhance Tourism Startup”, many people from tourism startups came and learned how big data can enhance their business. The speakers were Manggala Ratulangie, CEO & Co-Founder of Datanest, and Joy Gabriel, the Data Scientist of Telkom Indonesia. Sarah attended the event representing ANGIN team. It was conducted at Generali Tower Jakarta, 20th floor.

From the event, we learned that there are big countries that already use big data to enhance their tourism industry. The rating system that are conducted on public spaces purposely designed as a part of big data gatherings, such as rating system at restaurants, parking spot, or even public restroom. They need it to increase the service level. Other than that, there are also public services that are developed using artificial intelligence, such as a self-driving bus or robotic porter at train stations. The awareness of big data for the tourism industry is growing, especially for the government and private sectors.

Big data can be useful for many things, for instance, personalized marketing customer segmentation, customer sentiment analysis, route optimization, real-time analytics, or predictive analysis.
