ANGIN’s Business Development Associate, Adirani Heraputeri, attended Summit on Girls 2019 held by Plan Indonesia on December 10, 2019 at Balai Kartini. The forum aimed to facilitate dialogue between leaders, influential figures, gender activists, and youth communities to support the growth of gender equality in Indonesia. Rani attended a panel called ‘Women and the Future of Work’ with Isdar Marwan (Career Services Director at Mercer), Putri Alam (Head of Public Policy at Google Indonesia), Dondi Hananto (Partner of Patamar Capital), Woro Srihastuti Sulistyaningrum (Director of Family, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports at Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning), and Ripy Mangkoesoebroto (CEO & Co-Founder 3V) sitting as panelists, and Dina Mairawati (Youth Economic Empowerment Advisor Plan Indonesia) as moderator.

The panel discussed women and their role in the workforce. Some of the key points from the panel are how cognitive, social emotional skills and basic digital literacy are among the critical skills needed in the future as human will work hand in hand with technology. Technology will create more jobs than jobs that will be redundant. Technology might also enable women to enter the male dominated sector. There’s also a discussion on women’s role from an economic perspective: 2/3 buying decision is created by women, overlooking that fact and the importance of women in business is an economic loss. Another sector that will also be helpful for women in the workforce is education. Focusing on women, shifting the paradigm of social norms and behavior practices is necessary to be enacted to increase women participation in the work of the future. In conclusion, strategic collaboration, effective planning, and efficient implementation across sectors are needed to support women in the workforcea.
