Docking.id – Igniting Digital Transformation for Indonesia’s Shipyard System

As an archipelagic state, Indonesia has 30,800 vessels registered under the Indonesian Flag with 850,000 sailors, with around 250 shipyards, 660 ports and hundreds of marine vendors throughout Indonesia. With a high number of activity and complex mechanisms of the maritime industry in Indonesia, only 38% of the shipyards in Indonesia have digital exposures. The lack of digitization and transparency makes it hard to find shipyards and obtain a fair price. Likewise with marine vendors, ship owners have to deal with limited information when looking for marine equipment.

To solve this problem, Docking.id comes with a solution to help undergo a digital transformation for Indonesia’s maritime industry through the Maritime Digital Ecosystem. Since their launch in August 2019, Docking.id currently has 220 shipyards and 140 marine vendors on board and 440 active users.

How Does the Maritime Digital Ecosystem Work?

Docking.id offers a Maritime Digital Ecosystem where all the maritime stakeholders are integrated with each other. Their ecosystem connects shipyards, marine vendors and port finders and also provides services such as vessel booking for shipping activities. In their first stage, Docking.id provides online booking for docking space and also marine vendor finder.

If a user such as a shipowner is looking for a shipyard, they can input the length and draft of their vessel, docking location and facilities they need. Docking.id’s search engine will give the result of the shipyards based on their search criteria. Shipowners can review the facilities and whether they are suitable for their vessel, and contact the shipyard directly. Moreover, Docking.id have divided marine vendors into 20 categories of marine equipment. Users can choose what product category they are looking for, where the vendor is located, and review brochures from various vendors and select the one they prefer. These solutions can be applied on website platforms and mobile apps later.

Through Docking.id’s system, shipowners will be able to find shipyards & marine vendors within the trading area of the vessel, so they’d get easy access to shipyards and minimize the potential losses of hiring period while increase efficiency for docking preparation. For shipyards and vendors, they’d have a new marketing channel with a small budget, both in the local market and international maritime market. Most importantly, they also can obtain data about their customers’ insights.

The Team Behind Docking.id and Their Plans Forward

Docking.id team plans to expand by opening branches in 10 cities throughout Indonesia to handle 660 ports, 250 shipyards and 49 crewing schools, targeting 1500 strong members that hopefully can digitize 37,5% of the procurement process. In stage 2 and stage 3, Docking.id will develop a training center and e-commerce platform with minimum targets of 150K crew data and marine goods. This digitalization will impact around 50% of crew deployment and 90% of procurement processes.
