Press Release: ANGIN to Advocate Seed Stages' Climate Solutions and Innovation at COP28 in Dubai

ANGIN, a prominent advisory platform catalyzing impactful climate actions, actively engaged at The United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai which was implemented on 30th of November until 12th of December 2023. This two-week-long conference serves as a platform where global leaders, major businesses, and philanthropists strategize climate change and implement those strategies in the field.

COP28 is a platform dedicated to advocating climate financing, aiming to navigate and resolve the complex intersection of risks and opportunities. As ANGIN shares a parallel focus, we have actively participated in this conference. In our steadfast commitment to impactful climate actions, ANGIN underscored the paramount importance of collaborative efforts created in this event, among governments, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and the intricate relationships within off-taking, sub-vendoring, and regulatory support structures.

Brought to this prestigious occasion by esteemed partners, the Environmental Bamboo Foundation (EBF), and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, ANGIN proudly represented the UNFCCC Indonesia Pavilion. This recognition signifies ANGIN’s pivotal role as a pioneer advocating entrepreneurship as a solution to mitigate climate change in Indonesia. Saskia Tjokro, ANGIN’s Advisory Director, was invited as an investment and business expert to identify additional funding opportunities to support the successful implementation of the Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030 program in East Nusa Tenggara, part of Indonesia’s Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emission in the forestry and land use sector.

Having an impactful week in Dubai, Saskia was deeply engaged in the Blue Zone, the heart of the conference, participating in vibrant discussions spanning various thematic areas such as climate tech and circular economy. Her involvement extended to insightful forums and meetings, including the Community Empowerment for the National Energy Transition by Pertamina, Integrated Sustainable Bamboo Management for Climate Resilience by BSI-KLHK, and Voices of the Forest: Amplifying Local Knowledge in Climate Change Adaptation. Interaction was also established with key figures, including Indonesia’s Minister of Environment, the Climate and Land Use Alliance, and the Subnational Climate Fund, nurturing promising discussions for potential collaborations and funding support.

“Thank you to our valued partners for involving us, it is highly aligned with our commitment to supporting entrepreneurship as a climate mitigation solution in Indonesia. We are proud pioneers, spotlighting Indonesia’s innovative initiatives, focusing on sustainability and green entrepreneurship. We are deeply grateful and excited to be part of this opportunity!” said Saskia Tjokro, ANGIN’s Advisory Director.

As an advocate for Indonesian entrepreneurs since 2016, ANGIN feels privileged to have been brought to this prestigious gathering by our partners, offering us the opportunity to connect with esteemed climate change leaders. This experience further solidified our commitment to making a positive impact on our world. We had the honor of engaging with prominent figures such as Shinta Kamdani, Chairman of Asosiasi Pengusaha Indonesia (Apindo); Monica Tanuhandaru, Director of Environmental Bamboo Foundation (EBF); Siti Nurbaya, Indonesia’s Minister of Environment; and Zac Goldsmith, former Minister of State for Overseas Territories, Commonwealth, Energy, Climate, and Environment in England. The discussions focused on the pivotal role of social entrepreneurs in climate action and emphasized the crucial need for robust support, especially in the initial stages of their initiatives.

Through our representation at COP28, we are dedicated to enhancing our support for early-stage impact-driven solutions in Indonesia. Our commitment remains firm in advocating for private sector financing, capital mobilization, and staying informed about global climate challenges. ANGIN persistently advises and contributes toward a sustainable, carbon net-zero world. In particular, our INTRA program ensures ANGIN comprehensively addresses both supply and demand, striving to scale impact investment and entrepreneurship.

Our partnership with EBF at COP28 stands as a testament to our shared representation of Indonesia’s advancements in sustainable agroforestry practices. As we move forward, we eagerly anticipate the next steps, collaborating with EBF through workshops and focused group discussions to explore potential partnerships and secure funding support. This remarkable opportunity has been truly invaluable, and we’re deeply grateful and thrilled to have played a part in this essential initiative.

In conjunction with the ASEAN Angel Alliance Summit (AAA) 2018 that being be held in Malaysia on 27-28 November, a parallel pre-conference dialogue was organized one night before as a roundtable discussion to allow for a frank and interactive exchange among country representative of each member state in the region.

ANGIN Team represented by David Soukhasing (ANGIN Director), Valencia Dea (ANGIN Principal) and Feby Ramadhani (ANGIN Advisory Consultant) attended the pre-dinner alongside Ibu Noni, the President Director of Bluebird Group. It was a great opportunity to have a dynamic discussion for the success of the event with people and some old friends from Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, and Malaysia.

[RECAP] Transformational Business Network Asia (TBN) Conference 2018

Another year, another fascinating and informative conference: ANGIN attended the Transformational Business Network Asia (TBN) Conference 2018, which was filled with amazing speakers, enterprises, and delegates from all over the world convening to discuss impact. Enterprises all over Southeast Asia came and exhibited their products and services in the expo area. From sustainability to fintech, crafts to food and beverage, it is clear that South East Asian enterprises are creative in ways beyond belief to deliver meaningful impact. Meanwhile, the ANGIN team was able to reconnect with international partners, friends, and contacts in the social impact sphere, discussing updates, progress, and new partnership ideas for the coming year.

ANGIN was also invited to attend a breakfast gathering organised by Global Accelerator Learning Initiative (GALI) that was organised alongside the TBN Asia Conference. The meeting was hosted by ANDE and Emory University to bring together accelerator and incubator programs in Indonesia and the South East Asia region to share information about different GALI initiatives and explore possible collaborations in the region. The room was filled with practitioners and expert from the region with diverse backgrounds.

[RECAP] K-Content Expo 2018

At the K-Content Expo 2018 in Bangkok, I had the pleasure of meeting with numerous startups and organizations in the Korean creative industry in sectors ranging from character licensing, VR, EdTech, film production, broadcasting, comics, video games, and animation. Throughout the two meeting-filled days I learned about the opportunities and challenges facing this industry both in Korea and around the globe.

Everyone I met with cited the opportunity for novel Korean content and entertainment to spread to other countries in Asia that have not yet been fully exposed to it. Many particularly noted Indonesia as a promising region to target due to its very large and digitally savvy population. Although there was widespread optimism about expanding to adjacent regions, content creators emphasized the importance of finding the right local partners in order to ensure successful distribution and adoption. It was clear to me that the consumer media preferences in Korea were quite different than in other regions and that the type of content that has been successful there may not necessarily be elsewhere. As a result, all of the companies were very keen on understanding the local preferences of each of these adjacent regions thoroughly before taking action.

It will be interesting to see how the Korean creative industry develops going forward — I will certainly be keeping an eye on it. I am grateful to have been able to meet the extraordinary companies and people at the K-Content Expo, and look forward to keeping in touch in the future. I would like to thank KOCCA for hosting and inviting me to such a rewarding event.

KOCCA is a government agency under the MCST, supporting the advancement of creative industry in Korea, which encourages global business and enhances cultural exchanges, MCST and KOCCA hold the K-Content EXPO around the world yearly.

[RECAP] ANGIN goes to Echelon Asia Summit 2018

It’s conference season for the Asia Pacific’s startup and investor community – and Singapore happens to be the place to be. ANGIN team members Meredith Peng and Riaz Bhardwaj attended the Echelon Asia Summit 2018 in Singapore from June 28 – 29. Echelon is one of the region’s most hottest anticipated conferences, bringing together investors, startups, corporates, government, tech ecosystem players, and customers in one space. Simultaneously occuring was the TOP100 Startup pitch competition, where 150 handpicked startups from APAC battled it out on stage.

Aside from the various insights from talks, keynotes, and panels on Southeast Asia’s startup ecosystem, the ANGIN team enjoyed speaking to both startups and investors interested in the Indonesian market. We are excited to hear growing interest in Indonesia – startups who want to scale their solutions into Indonesia as well as investors who see potential in Indonesian startups. We are confident that ANGIN is well-positioned as an ecosystem player to become a natural partner in these efforts; through our research and consulting arm as well as harnessing the power of technology via Connector.ID, we believe that we can support this growing interest in the Indonesian market from major APAC players.

ANGIN is also pleased to have been invited to the MOIBA dinner, where startups and investors from around the region networked and gained meaningful connections over food and drink. We would like to thank the e27 and Echelon teams as well as MOIBA for the invitations and look forward to collaboration and mutual partnership in the future.
